(Global compilation from One Billion Rising 2013 which premiered at Sundance Film Festival)
One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That is ONE BILLION Women. On Friday, February 14, Atlanta will join with activists around the world for One Billion Rising for Justice, the largest day of action in the global movement to end violence against women and girls. Atlanta will bring together a coalition of organizations, businesses, schools, entertainers, and elected representatives to work to end violence and empower women in our city. There will be three major actions, a gathering at Ebenezer Baptist Church with elected officials and guest speakers, the “Stop Human Trafficking March” from Ebenezer Baptist Church to Grant Park and the creation of Atlanta’s largest “Red Tent” at the One Billion Rising Flash Mob. Legendary music producer Tena Clark, composer of the One Billion Rising global anthem, Break the Chain, will lead the flash mob dance in Grant Park.
Debbie Allen, of Fame fame, choreographed the dance for the Flash Mob, you can learn it online from her at onebillionrisingatl.net or below -

This year, Atlanta will focus on Human Trafficking, one of the most shocking crimes occurring in Georgia. According to the FBI, Atlanta is a hub for human trafficking, where sex or labor is forced. Approximately 374 girls are commercially sexually exploited monthly in Georgia with the average age of entry 12-14 years old. In 2012, the National Human Trafficking Resource Center received 446 calls from Georgia, 103 of which were classified as high-risk. Each month, 12,400 men in Georgia pay for sex with a young woman and 7,200 of them end up exploiting an adolescent female.
More than 190 countries are already signed on to Rise outside court houses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, or other public spaces for justice, marking the call to end the rampant impunity that prevails globally.
