Dear Friends,
If you’re like me, your heart continues to break as violence escalates and communities unravel. A secure and equitable future for all seems more elusive with the passing hours.
If we may find reassurance in these times, let it be in the fact that only by our powers combined will we change the trajectory we are on.
In the midst of this crisis, our leaders continue to undermine the authority of the medical, scientific, and activist communities. The denial and blatant disregard for truth is outrageous, to say the least. We stand to lose so much of who and what we love and cherish.
I’m hoping you will join me to help these candidates who can win, but not without our help.
Together we CAN and MUST alter the course we are on.
That’s why I’m co-hosting a Flip the Senate series, and the first is this Wednesday, June 3rd.
Please join me for this virtual meet-up with Cal to hear his important message.
“Our democracy is not a spectator sport. We must participate. All of you own this democracy. It’s yours. You will shape the future of this country.”
– Cal Cunningham
As Clean Air Month Comes to a Close, Consider This…
A recent Harvard study shows that an increase as minuscule as 1 microgram of particulate matter in the atmosphere is associated with a 15% increase in the death rate of COVID-19.
“The study results underscore the importance of continuing to enforce existing air pollution regulations to protect human health.”
Those in the position to act are giving the green light to Big Polluters to degrade the air we breathe and the water we drink by rolling back 100 Environmental Rules, a majority of which are related to air quality.
Such negligence can cause irreversible bodily harm to children who are among the most vulnerable to the health implications of dirty air because their respiratory system does not fully develop until around 8 years of age.
Rolling back policies that protect public health despite the consensus among the administration’s own scientific advisers flies in the face of an established body of data that supports a causal link between pollution and poor health, especially among children and communities of color.
Stay up to date with the growing body of scientific knowledge by visiting Mothers and Others For Clean Air’s blog, research hub, and their new Speaker Series Clean Air Conversations with the second installment “Will the COVID-19 Global Shutdown Help about Children Breathe Easier?” airing June 9th at 3pm EST.
It’s time we acknowledge the inalienable rights of every human being. And that’s why we need to

Tucson and Phoenix are two of the fastest-warming cities in the nation, and Arizona needs someone who can make the right decisions. As an astronaut, Mark Kelly has seen the planet change from space. As an engineer, he values science and data.
His opponent, Martha McSally, is a climate change denier with League of Conservation Voters Environmental Score of 7%. Check out her voting record and see for yourself.

Sara Gideon is the current Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives. During her time in office, she has banned off-shore drilling in Maine and banned pesticide use in public green spaces, and sponsored a 2016 house bill to modernize Maine’s solar power policy. Her pro-environment record has earned her a score of 96% from Maine Conservation Voters

Former State Senator from North Carolina, Cal Cunningham, (NC)

In 2000 Cunningham became North Carolina’s youngest legislator when he was elected to the State Senate. Two years later, at age 29, he cosponsored the landmark Clean Smokestacks Act, a bill that reduced harmful pollutants that exacerbate asthma and other respiratory ailments by nearly 80%. Since then he has helped grow a waste-reduction company, WasteZero, by serving as its Vice President and General Counsel.
Contrast that with his opponent, Thom Tillis, a climate change denier who was one of 22 Senators to send a letter to President Trump urging him to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord.

Gov. Steve Bullock, (MT)

Before he was its two-term Governor, Steve Bullock was the Attorney General of Montana. While serving his beloved state, Bullock has fought to protect access to public lands and streams, created a habitat conservation plan for the sage-grouse, and increased taxes on gas and diesel. What’s most impressive about Gov. Bullock is what he hasn’t done, proving he can withstand political pressure and stand up for what is best for his constituents.
Montana Conservation Voters had this to say about the governor: “MCV would also like to thank Governor Steve Bullock for his important role in vetoing several irresponsible bills; we hope Montana’s next governor will show the same courage whenever necessary.”

As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them. He will focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
